Recently my friend and colleague David (who knows South Bristol a lot better than I do) recommend I head up to Dundry for a great view of Bristol. Dundry is a small village several miles South from Bristol, and perched atop a large hill. It has several radio masts and I believe one of themContinue reading “The view from Dundry”

Halls of residence
The other day, in my role as a member of university IT staff, I visited a hall of residence to install some wireless networking equipment. It’s out of term-time so the hall was unoccupied, and Chris and I had the building to ourselves. It was quite eerie -a building normally full of people and noiseContinue reading “Halls of residence”
Mini-Bristol
This week the Photo Challenge theme says we have to take a photo that looks like it has been edited – but hasn’t. I decided to shoot a set of fake-miniature shots, otherwise known as tilt-shift. These days, this is usually done with Photoshop but it’s also possible to create the effect at the timeContinue reading “Mini-Bristol”
St Mary’s Church, Fishponds
Earlier this week in a charity shop in central Bristol, I discovered a parish magazine from my church, St Mary’s, Fishponds, dating from October 1947. I decided to scan it in and reproduce it here for anyone who is interested – look at the images below or download the PDF version. I think it’s fascinating – partlyContinue reading “St Mary’s Church, Fishponds”
Goodnight, Bristol
Taken from the top of Troopers Hill, overlooking Bristol, while I was actually out looking for the Pan-STARRS comet that should have been visible, but sadly wasn’t, due to atmospheric haze and light pollution. I processed this photo to make it monochrome, add a hint of sepia and fake some film grain to make itContinue reading “Goodnight, Bristol”
Clifton Suspension Bridge at night
I happened to be in Clifton the other night, so I made a panorama of the bridge. It’s made of three frames, shot handheld.
Bristol Aquarium
Bristol Aquarium has been open for a while, but I only just got around to going with some friends, for Hannah’s birthday. Shooting inside the aquarium was a challenge as it was quite dark. I had to use my fastest lens (a Canon 50mm f/1.8) even though it wasn’t the ideal lens for the job.Continue reading “Bristol Aquarium”
More from the C220
Not too long ago, I excitedly blogged about obtaining a Mamiya C220 TLR. I’ve now taken it out for a spin with some colour film in it. Most of these pictures were taken weeks ago, but I’ve only just got around to uploading them. There’s nothing groundbreaking, but I like all of them for different reasonsContinue reading “More from the C220”
Project 35 – Out now!
Project 35 is complete! I went to ASDA this morning as my film scanner is broken, and had my film developed and put onto CD. I’ve done the bare minimum of editing with these pictures – they are rough and ready, and exactly as they came out of the camera (a 1956 Zorki-4 rangefinder withContinue reading “Project 35 – Out now!”
Bristol zoo (again)
We decided to go to Bristol zoo again today. We’ve been before, but I never get tired of watching the animals.
