Taken from the top of Troopers Hill, overlooking Bristol, while I was actually out looking for the Pan-STARRS comet that should have been visible, but sadly wasn’t, due to atmospheric haze and light pollution. I processed this photo to make it monochrome, add a hint of sepia and fake some film grain to make itContinue reading “Goodnight, Bristol”

The Shard
This weekend I visited London with friends from choir. It wasn’t your average tourist outing though – we had tickets to go to the top of the Shard. This new building is the tallest in the EU and has the highest viewing platform in the UK. We went up at about 3:30 and stayed untilContinue reading “The Shard”
Touchdown!
I spent this morning at Bristol Airport, watching aeroplanes take off and land. It was cold enough that nearby puddles were frozen though, but it was the first sunny day this year, so I braved the ice and waited around with my camera. I think the wait paid off, as I caught this jet burningContinue reading “Touchdown!”
Bristol zoo (again)
We decided to go to Bristol zoo again today. We’ve been before, but I never get tired of watching the animals.
Cumberland Basin in the evening
It’s the Bristol Balloon Fiesta this weekend and tonight at 6pm there was scheduled to be a mass ascent of 100 hot air balloons near the Clifton Suspension Bridge. Paul and I checked my ephemeris to find a good location (it’s a really useful app) and set off to Cumberland Basin, which affords good viewsContinue reading “Cumberland Basin in the evening”
A walk on the Downs
Nathan and I went for a walk on Bristol Downs today, hoping to find some pictures of sport for this week’s Photo Challenge. Two local football teams were playing each other in training, so I stopped to take a few photos. This one was the best. Then the heavens opened and it started to pourContinue reading “A walk on the Downs”
Longleat Safari Park
This week, Hannah and I stayed in at Center Parcs in Longleat forest. One of the nearest attractions is Longleat Safari park. I’m not an animal expert but I do admire their beauty, so naturally I took my camera. I ended up taking over a thousand pictures of creatures great and small, ranging from smallContinue reading “Longleat Safari Park”
The Tour of Britain 2011 – Exeter to Exmouth
For those that don’t know, I’m a cycling fan. Today, Stage 5 of the Tour of Britain set off from Exeter and meandered around Devon for 180km, before ending up at Exmouth. It was a roughly circular route, so we managed to see the race start at Exeter, pass by at Crediton, and finish atContinue reading “The Tour of Britain 2011 – Exeter to Exmouth”
Bristol zoo
Today I went to Bristol zoo with Hannah and her parents. The sun was out and it was a lovely day for shooting with my Canon 450D and slightly slow Tamron 70-300mm f/4-5.6 telephoto lens. These photos are all in chronological order. We started off in the reptile house. I don’t really know what anyContinue reading “Bristol zoo”
Super-moon
Tonight is the “supermoon“, apparently. It’s the closest it’s been since 1992 and should look larger and brighter. Delving a little deeper into the numbers, it is only a small percentage closer and the effects probably won’t be visible to the naked eye, without some sort of measuring equipment. Whatever. We all know I loveContinue reading “Super-moon”
