There’s a large tree in Oldbury Court Estate, just minutes from my house, that I’ve photographed many times before – but rarely in colour. It’s very picturesque, quintessentially tree-shaped and with lovely rough bark. This time I’ve gone for bold colours and a fisheye lens to try and capture the excitement and brightness of Spring.

Night shots
Recently I read about taking exposures at night, lasting perhaps ten minutes, and using nothing but ambient moonlight or the general glow of the night sky. It’s supposed to give a strange feel to photographs – they appear to be lit as brightly as in the day, but something is “wrong” with them. I decidedContinue reading “Night shots”
More of Winter at Oldbury Court
I posted the other day with some pictures of frost, fog and ice from Oldbury Court. I actually shot most of a second film on the same day, and I’ve only just finished and processed it. I think these pictures are even better than the last lot, and probably some of my favourite photos ofContinue reading “More of Winter at Oldbury Court”
Fog and ice
I woke up this morning and looked out of the window. I saw with delight that a thick fog had descended over the entire area. I love fog, so I grabbed one of my cameras and dashed out to Oldbury Court Estate. On the way, I slipped and fell on ice. Unfortunately, I bruised myContinue reading “Fog and ice”
It’s spring!
This is the back of Osborne Villas, as seen from the tops of the buildings on Woodland Road. This chap was sitting on a bench in Brandon Hill park one lunchtime, reading. Hana thought it was me! Slightly offended – that guy was probably in his 60s and bald with glasses. Perhaps Hana needs glassesContinue reading “It’s spring!”
Stag party
OK, well not quite a stag party. But I did take a photo of a stag in Ashton Court. The focus isn’t perfect, because the grass in the foreground seemed to throw the autofocus. I guess it just proves their camouflage is effective 🙂 In other wildlife-related news, we saw a worm.
Shots of Bristol
This week I shot another roll of black & white film in my SLR. Last night I developed it, and tonight I’ve scanned and uploaded the highlights for your viewing pleasure. Unfortunately I think I overdeveloped the film a little, so some of the brighter areas are burnt out. Never mind. First of all, hereContinue reading “Shots of Bristol”
Autumn on film
I’ve just got another roll of film back from the developers. This time I had it done at ASDA, where I was delighted to find that they don’t treat my films like junk. Predictably, as it’s Autumn outside, the photos largely reflect this. Here are my favourites from the roll. Most were taken on BrandonContinue reading “Autumn on film”
Autumn is upon us
In my opinion, it’ll be hard for me to beat last year’s Autumn colours photo. But I still think this photo does a pretty good job of capturing the strange interplay between bright sunshine and wet leaves.
Viewfinder optional
From Stu’s Tuesday Challenge: Take a bunch of photos without using any kind of viewfinder or checking the images on the rear screen afterwards. Post your best one of the week! I had a barbecue with Hana and a couple of friends on Bristol Downs today. Seemed an ideal time to take photos, and whenContinue reading “Viewfinder optional”
