I shot a roll of black and white film over two snowy days on the 6th and 7th of January, 2010. I wasn’t sure how it would come out, given that black and white film can only “see” the colours black and white, and the snow is white. As it turns out, I’m very pleased.Continue reading “Pictures of the snow”

Pinhole photos
I recently built a pinhole lens for my 35mm SLR. I took some photos over Christmas and I just got the film back from the developers. The results are good, given that this “lens” is a piece of tin foil with a hole in it. The focus is pretty good, although not perfect. The biggerContinue reading “Pinhole photos”
Autumn on film
I’ve just got another roll of film back from the developers. This time I had it done at ASDA, where I was delighted to find that they don’t treat my films like junk. Predictably, as it’s Autumn outside, the photos largely reflect this. Here are my favourites from the roll. Most were taken on BrandonContinue reading “Autumn on film”
Autumn sunset
Autumn this year seems to have brought with it some fantastic sunsets looking south from Kingswood, Bristol. I would like to point out that the colours of these photos have not been enhanced on the computer. What you see is exactly what I downloaded from the camera.
A short walk at sunset
I love the odd colours and coarse film grain in this shot of Cossham hospital. I think it looks rather retro.
Good morning!
Nothing like a hot cup of coffee as you watch the sun rise on an Autumn morning.
How not to handle negatives
Since I started playing with 35mm photography a few weeks ago, I’ve been using Snappy Snaps near Clifton Down shopping centre. It came with the recommendation of a friend. I’ve simply been asking them to develop the film into negatives and then I’ve been scanning the negatives myself. But I noticed that the first fewContinue reading “How not to handle negatives”
A new sculpture
This is a new sculpture that has been erected in Royal Fort gardens to commemorate the centenary of the University of Bristol. It’s a series of tall, narrow mirrors arranged to make a maze. Like a house of mirrors – with gaps. I recommend giving it a visit!
Urban landscape
This week’s Tuesday Challenge from Stu was to create an urban landscape. I’ve been busy all week and so earmarked Saturday to go out and take some landscapes from various locations around Bristol. Its hilly nature lends itself to grand vistas without needing to gain access to a tall building. Unfortunately, the weather on SaturdayContinue reading “Urban landscape”
We did it!
Today, my family and I cycled from Bristol to Bath and back to raise money for Marie Curie cancer care. Thanks to all those who sponsored us – the final count was £326 which will be greatly appreciated by cancer sufferers and their families.
