Today I went to Cambridge to watch the Cambridge Squanderers play hockey against Oxford. I don’t really know much about hockey, but I had a vested interest because my brother Oliver was the captain, wearing number 33. I took loads of photos, and here are the best. You can click for larger versions, or if youContinue reading “Squanderers’ Varsity hockey match”

The moon in motion
These photos of the moon were taken three minutes apart each. It’s surprising how quickly the moon moves across the sky! I plan to revisit this idea when the moon is lower in the sky, and incorporate some trees or buildings
King Henry VIII Relay
Today, the 40th King Henry VIII Relay took place – a prestigious 6×2.3 mile relay race for secondary schools. I took the day off work to watch, as my brother Edmund was competing for King Henry VIII school, running the sixth leg. I ran the Relay a few years ago so it was a bitContinue reading “King Henry VIII Relay”
Full moon
It’s a full moon tonight, so here’s yet another picture of the moon. I’m fascinated by that rock. This time I played with other “props” to complement the moon – in this case, next door’s hedge.
Student day of Action
Today, students across the UK protested against cuts to education funding, and an increase in tuition fees. I’ve got mixed opinions on the subject that I won’t go into here, but I decided to follow the rally and the march to see if there were any good photos to be had. The initial rally wasContinue reading “Student day of Action”
Full moon
It’s very clear tonight, and there’s a full moon. I’ve tried photographing the moon many times before, but I think this is the best attempt so far. It’s probably due to bits of experience that I’ve gained, such as: mirror lock-up to ensure a shake-free picture stopping down to increase sharpness spot metering to ensureContinue reading “Full moon”
Autumn comes again
And as the seasons roll round yet again, I have done my best to capture an autumnal shot. This one was taken with the Autumn-themed Photo Challenge in mind.
A weekend in Center Parcs
Over the Bank Holiday weekend, I visited the Sherwood Forest Center Parcs with Hannah and my family. As usual, I took at least one camera. I decided to take my trusty DSLR, as well a newly-bought waterproof 35mm camera, as we were intending to go swimming and canoeing. I shall try to piece my holidayContinue reading “A weekend in Center Parcs”
A sunny weekend
I visited my parents this weekend. Both of my brothers were also at home, because their birthdays are both in May. We were treated to beautiful, sunny weather on Friday. My brothers played hockey in the garden but I was too lazy to join in, so I broke out my telephoto lens and tried myContinue reading “A sunny weekend”
Graffiti
I’ve never really attempted to take photos of graffiti before, this week I saw two pieces in particular that I really like – and a third whose photo also came out OK. I spotted all three of these in the Clifton area of Bristol. This first one isn’t that interesting, but I like the contrastyContinue reading “Graffiti”
