I don’t often get to shoot people* so I jumped at the chance to take pictures of my friends Nathan and Coralie. It was a fun shoot, and I think this shows in the pictures. * with a camera

The wrong side of the camera
I’m usually the photographer, and rarely the model. It’s not that I dislike posing for pictures, mostly that I don’t often get asked. But recently I offered to take part in Drew’s “1/52” project – each week, he takes a picture of a man wearing a hat. It was fun – I was relaxed inContinue reading “The wrong side of the camera”
Portraits
Last weekend we visited our friends Fraser (my best man to-be) and his partner Suzie at their new flat. Fraser specifically asked me to bring some camera and lighting equipment so I could take his picture with Suzie, as they don’t have many “couples” pictures. Needless to say, I obliged. I don’t often do portraits,Continue reading “Portraits”
Family portraits
It’s been a while since Christmas, when my father-in-law-to-be gave me a Victorian camera. I’ve played with it a few times since then but because I’ve been so busy I haven’t got around to scanning any of the pictures in. Until today. These pictures were taken between Christmas and New Year when I’d only hadContinue reading “Family portraits”
What’s the story?
This week the photo challenge is “what’s the story?”. We have to take a portrait of a person in a setting where the environment tells you something about the person. I took a picture of my friend Ed, who collects model trains. The picture was taken in front of part of his layout.
Hannah’s new glasses
Last time Hannah got some new glasses, I photographed them on the table. This time, she was kind enough to let me take her picture wearing them. While the flashes were set up, I asked her to point the camera at me (it’s about time I had a new profile picture!). I wasn’t planning toContinue reading “Hannah’s new glasses”
Me & my camera
This photo was taken for the Photo Challenge this week – folks & their camera. Taking a self-portrait on a camera that doesn’t have a self-timer is pretty hard, so I decided to pose with my fun camera and use my digital camera to take the picture.
Isn’t she lovely?
I snapped this portrait of Hana while we were away in Wells for a few days (more traditional tourist pics to follow!). I thought it was a good picture in the first place, but I followed this glamour tutorial* to give the image some further touching up. It’s the first time I’ve tried this kindContinue reading “Isn’t she lovely?”
Hana through a new lens
Today my new 50mm f/1.8 lens arrived. It’s hailing outside and there isn’t much to point a camera at indoors, but Hana sat thinking so I snapped one of her. I shot this with the aperture wide open, and I’m pleased with the result. It’s my fastest lens by a long way, and I thinkContinue reading “Hana through a new lens”
Some self portraits
Over the last few months I’ve amassed quite a bit of photographic lighting equipment but I don’t often get the chance to play with it. Hana was out this evening, so I moved all the furniture aside and turned my kitchen/living area into a studio. (You can see from the last shot on this pageContinue reading “Some self portraits”
