Halina Paulette Electric

Released 1967 This is a simple viewfinder camera with an uncoupled selenium light meter. It’s reasonable, and OK to use. What the light meter adds in usability over fully manual cameras, the lack of any kind of focussing aid takes away. See all photos taken with the Paulette. At a glance Lens Fixed 45mm f/2.8Continue reading “Halina Paulette Electric”

LOMO Lubitel 166 Universal

Released 1980 This is my first TLR. I saw it at a car boot sale and snapped it up for a bargain price. At the time of writing, this is my only medium format camera with the ability to focus, and with control over the aperture and shutter. It’s much more rewarding to work withContinue reading “LOMO Lubitel 166 Universal”

Braun Paxette Electromatic II

Released 1959 The Paxette is quite a nice compact, with a fixed shutter speed at 1/40, but variable aperture and focus. The basic selenium meter doesn’t work but that’s OK. It’s still perfectly usable as a manual camera. See all photos taken with the Paxette. At a glance Lens Fixed 40mm f/2.8 Film 135 FocusContinue reading “Braun Paxette Electromatic II”

Olympus OM101

Released 1988 This is yet another not-very-interesting SLR. The most noteworthy point is that it has “power focus”. This is manual focus, but adjusted using a thumbwheel and an electric motor, rather than by twisting the lens barrel. Unusually for an SLR, exposure is fully automatic unless you buy the additional “manual control unit” whichContinue reading “Olympus OM101”

Canon Sure Shot A-1

Released 1994 OK, don’t laugh. I bought this camera specifically for an activity holiday, since it’s waterproof and very robust. It’s not very interesting, but it’s useful. It’s also not a bad point & shoot, and of course it lends itself to unusual shots. See all photos taken with the Sure Shot A-1. At aContinue reading “Canon Sure Shot A-1”

Voigtländer Bessa 6×9

Released 1929 I’ve wanted a bellows camera of some sort for ages, mainly for their antique looks. Trouble is, it’s hard to find specimens with the leather intact and still light-tight. This one is in poor cosmetic condition, but still mostly works. The shutter is a bit sticky at slow speeds and when I firstContinue reading “Voigtländer Bessa 6×9”

Coronet Conway – Synchronised Model

Released 1955 I bought this camera from eBay as a way of getting into medium format photography. I also managed to get hold of the proprietary flashgun, the Coro-Flash, which takes flash bulbs. See all photos taken with the Conway. At a glance Lens Fixed 110mm f/18 Film 120 (6×9) Focus Fixed, with close-up lensContinue reading “Coronet Conway – Synchronised Model”

Canon AE-1 Program

Released 1981 In September 2009, I was given this Canon AE-1 Program 35mm SLR with a 50mm prime lens. It’s actually the first film camera I have ever used, aside from disposable cameras in my childhood. I absolutely love the camera – it’s what started my interest in film photography. Now, I have a collectionContinue reading “Canon AE-1 Program”

Canon EOS 450D

Released 2008 In March 2010, I decided to make the leap to a digital SLR, having outgrown my Fuji S9600 bridge camera. I have a decent selection of lenses now, so the 450D is extremely versatile. See all photos taken with the 450D, or search by lens. At a glance Lens Canon EF & EF-SContinue reading “Canon EOS 450D”

Voigtländer Bessa

Another week, another new camera, and some more photos from it. These photos are taken with my “new” Voigtländer Bessa. I posted on here recently with some photos from a film that was still in the camera. With a camera from the late 1920s-1930s, it seemed fitting to visit a former industrial site – soContinue reading “Voigtländer Bessa”
