Last week I visited some friends to take some photos of their new baby. I was distracted by their friendly cat, Daisy. She’s extremely friendly and wanted attention, so of course I took a picture! Canon AT-1 with Canon 100mm f/4 macro, Ilford HP5+, flash bounced off ceiling

Lucky waving cats
For ages, I’ve wanted to paint a pair of Chinese lucky waving cats the same colours as my cats. This weekend I finally got around to doing so – and these are the results 🙂 Lou Lou isn’t keen on her lucky waving cat. Mittens keeps trying to kill hers.
Feline light metering
Cats have excellent night vision, because the pupils of their eyes can open up so wide, to let more light in. They can also see well in bright daylight because the pupils shrink and let less light in. This is exactly the same as the aperture on a camera, and it got me thinking: can IContinue reading “Feline light metering”
Mittens waits for Christmas
This picture was a happy accident while I was attempting to take a picture for the Advent-themed photo challenge this week. I was attempting to set up a snowglobe with lights behind it. I was also going to shake the snowglobe to set the snow swirling around. I was just testing focus when Mittens cameContinue reading “Mittens waits for Christmas”
Look what the cat dragged in!
This evening, Mittens brought a live slow-worm into the house. I’m not a huge fan of sharing my living space with reptiles, so I carried it outside and took its picture. Despite their appearance, slow-worms are not actually snakes, although they look similar to small grass snakes. Unlike snakes, their eyes can blink. To give a sense ofContinue reading “Look what the cat dragged in!”
Can haz mouse?
Mittens brought in a live mouse yesterday. I happened to have my DSLR in my hands so I took a few photos before putting the pair of them outside.
Failcat
This is a picture of my kitten Mittens trying to jump up on the railing at the top of the stairs. She overshot a bit, and landed on her ribs. Luckily, she managed to recover by scrabbling with her back legs and avoided falling down the stairs to her death 😀 The picture was takenContinue reading “Failcat”
Avon Gorge and other stuff
This film has been in my Canon AE-1 Program for a while, so this assortment of unconnected photos go back a while. Unfortunately the film curled pretty badly while drying and I wasn’t able to scan it properly. Quite a few of these pictures have Newton’s rings in them – rainbow-coloured splodges across the middleContinue reading “Avon Gorge and other stuff”
Meet Mittens
As if the internet didn’t already have enough kittens, Hannah and I adopted a rescue kitten called Mittens. She is a semi-feral cat and is quite afraid of people. After a few hours of being around her she let us stroke her briefly, but she usually hisses. She won’t let us pick her up, butContinue reading “Meet Mittens”
Lou Lou again
Yep – it’s Lou Lou again, and this time she’s rolling around on her scratching pad.
